It’s a wrap – This is where I travelled to in 2018

2018 is over so it’s time for a little wrap up of all my travels of the last year. This year wasn’t as adventurous as the year before, with rather a lot more weekend trips than longer backpacking adventures. I also already moved twice this year, graduated from university and started a new study, so this year was rather busy.

January 2018: Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam

I started the year off in Thailand on my way home after the semester abroad in Korea. The year actually started really badly because I got pretty sick on the third day of this trip and had to take antibiotics the entire time which didn’t get better until I got back to Europe in the middle of January. I also had an ear infection the whole time so that kind of ruined the plan of getting some more scuba diving done. Nevertheless it still was a great trip, I loved Cambodia and I got to see Angkor Wat and wild monkeys so that was definitely worth it. In Vietnam I only spent three days so I have not seen a lot of the country yet but would love to return some day.

March 2018: Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain

For my 22nd birthday I happened to have the week off and spend 4 nights on Lanzarote. I mostly choose this island because I found a super cheap return flight that I actually already booked while I was still living in Korea. Once again, I didn’t get to dive because there was a storm and no boats were going out but apart from the weather the island was absolutely beautiful. I honestly didn’t expect too much at first, but ended up loving the place. Absolutely stunning!

July 2018: Interlaken, Switzerland

This trip was a bit of a last-minute trip because Interlaken is only like a 7 hour bus ride away from where I was staying at in Germany so I thought I could squeeze in a little two-day weekend trip. This was kind of a funny story actually because my bus back was cancelled without any notice and there was only one bus a day going to Germany. After hours of waiting and phone calls without answers I had to take an expensive train back to Basel and then from there I took another bus to Germany. It wasn’t actually funny, I lied, because up to this day Flixbus is still ignoring my emails where I ask for my money back. Anyway, Interlaken was beautiful, I did some hiking and got over 41.000 steps in a day once, which I remember because I was so super tired and I think every one in my 16-people dorm made fun of me because I went to bed at 8pm.

August 2018: Corfu, Greece

This location was once again based on me finding a super cheap flight and not being able to resist. I mean 70€ for a 3-hour return flight, would you have been able to resist? (Pssst, and this is how I did but don’t tell anyone). So this trip to Corfu I actually planned a couple of weeks in advance and I actually ended up staying at the same city, same place, same hostel for the entire week. Which is something that I never do but since I already had a return flight and only one week of vacation I tried to be a typical tourist for once. And it worked out well. Due to Corfu being an island where it is a lot more difficult to hop over to the nearest island, most people actually stayed for longer amount of days than what you would usually expect at a hostel. I met really cool people and had a great week of toga parties and beach days. I do miss the Pink Palace.

August 2018: Krakow, Poland

Another of those short weekend trips. Again I found a super cheap flight and Krakow always looked so pretty in pictures, so I ended up doing a little 3-night trip to Poland in my last week of the summer holiday. I honestly didn’t expect too much but I absolutely loved Krakow and Poland and will definitely go back at some point.

September 2018: Oktoberfest, Munich

In September I went to Oktoberfest for the first time to meet up with some friends that I met during my exchange semester in Korea. It was pretty fun and great to see everyone again.

Since September 2018: Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Actually I moved to Amsterdam at the end of August before I went to Krakow and Munich but since I’m still here I thought I would include it at the end. I will hopefully finish my study in the summer of 2019 so at least until then I will be staying in Amsterdam. After that I have absolutely no clue, so 2019 is going to be interesting to say the least.

And this is where I have travelled to in 2018. Let’s see how 2019 is going to be!
