Culture Night marks Reykjavik recovery
The high point of this year’s annual Culture Night in Iceland’s capital will be the official opening of the Harpa, concert and conference centre. The building’s opening was delayed by the banking crisis of 2008. The Harpa’s glass facade will be lit by the artist Olafur Eliasson as a prelude to the traditional closing firework display. Artists from Reykjavik’s twinned city Seattle will be prominent among performers. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the event on August 20th.
