I think there are two kinds of places you can describe as “next big things” — either places that are fantastic and virtually unknown, or places that are simply the next step. Labuan Bajo falls into the latter category. It’s not an amazing secret yet to be discovered, and people are there because it’s a gateway to better sights in Flores — but it’s pretty nice, nonetheless. Labuan Bajo has almost a Wild West feeling to it — dirt roads, gap-filled sidewalks, dogs running down the street (though thankfully not as bad as the Bali dogs), children staring wide-eyed at the Westerners walking by. Westerners, though coming to Labuan Bajo in increasing numbers, are still relatively rare — especially in the outer reaches of town. Most...

Learning Indonesian Online with Rosetta Stone

Image
I remember going to a restaurant with my new friend. He just moved to Bali and he loves languages. While he was ordering his meal in Indonesian, I was truly impressed. He was surprised that after being so long in Bali, I was still unable to speak the language. I felt bad. A few days later, we are having dinner again, and he ordered something in Indonesian.  Then, he turns to me and says: “you know what, the other day, I’ve met people who live here and they can’t even say the basic stuff”. I was like… “Mmm… yeah man, that’s me”. It was ironic, but I started to feel guilty and I thought I should try and learn a few things. As my brain likes to trick me, I did forget my new potential resolution, until I heard about Rosetta Stone.   Rosetta-what?   Learn Indonesian Online   Rosetta Stone is a language software that uses TrueAccent™ which is the world’s best speech recognition technology.  Rosetta Stone is also way more than just a language app. It uses Dynam...
